About
The improvement project of Vilyuisk begins with the revitalization of the old part of the town, featuring an entrance unit that references the legend of the town's founding. It features a pattern from the coat of arms of Olensk (town’s first name) and elements of the town's historical Cossack heritage. In the spirit of its historical heritage, the project proposes restoring a lost Orthodox church as an art object made from a prefabricated modular structure made of metal pipes. The construction will be handled by a Yakutsk-based organization that will manufacture the modules and assemble them on site.
As a result of the first project discussion with citizens - the elders of Vilyuisk proposed the recreation of one part of the St. Nicholas Church, and the other one being shown on a glass signage. The citizens and guests will be seeing the church in the reflection.
The historical past will be displayed in a form of three seasonal fair stands, which will be representing the Cossack architecture. The stands will work only in summer.
A watchtower resembling the traditional Sakha horse hitching post - serge.
The hitching post will be made of perforated sheets engraved with Sakha motifs.
The tower is also equipped with a lighting system. At nighttime the serge will illuminate the skies with a beam of light - this is a reference to a star and a diamond named after Vilyuisk.
